We are pleased to announce that Dr. Sahar Rooholamini, Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, will be our first Assistant Dean for Faculty Recruitment & Retention.
In this role, Dr. Rooholamini will focus on supporting faculty recruitment processes across the School of Medicine (SoM) with the goal of developing a more inclusive and representative faculty. She will further develop UW School of Medicine's best practices for search committees and will serve as a resource for department chairs and search committees chairs as they lead these processes.
In addition, Dr. Rooholamini will lead efforts to look at systemic interventions to support the retention of our faculty. She will be an essential member of the Office of Faculty Affairs team in an effort to create an environment where all our faculty can thrive. This is an exciting new role that will support and grow diverse and inclusive teams critical to our community's success.
Dr. Rooholamini first joined the UW School of Medicine in 2013 as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Pediatrics after graduating from Stanford University School of Medicine with her MD and Yale University with her MPH. She completed her Pediatric Residency at Stanford University Medical Center and the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, where she also served as a Chief Resident in the Division of General Pediatrics.
Since that time, Dr. Rooholamini has held many roles as an educator and leader within the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine and Graduate Medical Education. She served as Associate Program Director for the UW Pediatric Residency Program from 2015-2022, where she co-led the implementation of the Inclusion, Cultural Humility, Diversity, and Equity (INCLUDE) curriculum, which provided monthly didactics and interactive sessions on DEI principles and addressing microaggressions. This work was recognized for its longitudinal DEI efforts in 2022 by the ACGME Barbara Ross-Lee, DO Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award. She has also chaired multiple faculty search committees for Seattle Children's Hospital and the Department of Pediatrics.
Dr. Rooholamini will join the Office of Faculty Affairs and partner extensively with the UW Medicine Office of Healthcare Equity and the UW Office of Faculty Advancement.
We see this as an important next chapter for UW Medicine. Please join us in welcoming her to the leadership team in the School of Medicine.
